Sex Criminals, Vol I

Inspired by the list of the top challenged books in 2016, which I blogged about last week during Banned Books Week, I read Sex Criminals, Vol. I.  It wasn't the full thing, which is Big Hard Sex Criminals and includes all of the graphic novels in one, but it was enough to get a taste for it.

And, well... yeah, it's pretty explicit.  I can see why it would have been challenged.  I don't agree with banning, of course, but I can still see why.

Belated Banned Books Week

I usually post every year about Banned Books Week, but I'm a little late this year.  Banned Books Week started Sunday!  We only have tonight and tomorrow left.  But that doesn't mean you can't celebrate (and I still plan to).

Generally I celebrate by reading one of the previous year's most frequently challenged books.  The 2016 top 10 challenged books are as follows:

Wearable books

I love books, so of course I love things that have to do with books, too.  I'm not much of one for a lot of kitschy things, though, so I like everything I own to be cute and have a purpose.  The best way to do that, of course, is to make it something you can wear.

Looking for a way to incorporate your love of reading into your own personal style?  Here are a few ways to wear your passion on your sleeve (or anywhere else on your body).

Reading challenges for 2017

Who here is planning on doing one or more reading challenges in 2017?  I have done the Goodreads Reading Challenge for the past two years, in both 2015 and 2016, and I've set it up for 2017 as well.  My goal each year has been 50 books (roughly one book a week, with a little fudge room), and I get a little closer each year.  In fact, although I originally made my goal 40 books last year, I was reading so much a few months in that I went back up to 50.  I did beat 40 books for 2016, but fell a little short of 50.

Better luck in 2017!

In fact, I'm thinking of adding some reading challenges to my goals for the year, thanks to this wonderful list of 20 reading challenges for 2017.
